Custom orders

"Investing in a high-performance blade is a bit like buying a high-end car, it is never about getting to the destination, but the sheer pleasure of the drive.

While any cheap knife will still cut your dinner, a well-made blade can turn a chore into the most enjoyable part."

The process

I take a small number of customer orders each year. My time in the workshop is currently limited to one day per week and I don't want people to have to wait too long.

My wait list is generally around one year and I don't take on orders that are likely to go beyond that.

To get started, contact me via email or private message and let me know what you would like. The key things are generally size, style and materials but the more detail you can give me, the better! You can browse my Gallery and social media pages for inspiration and check out my material and pricing below as a guide. If it's a new design for me, I will always show you drawings and material samples as part of the process. I enjoy having some creative license but also like the challenge of a strict design brief. Whatever I make will always take on part of my own personal style, which is why you commission a custom work in the first place, right?

I never commit to an exact completion date for an order, as my time in the workshop is too unpredictable. For this reason, I also don't charge any money up front to secure your spot.

Once we've agreed on the design brief and materials, I will give you a quote and an estimated time frame and, if you're happy with that, you go on my custom list!

I will then contact you as your spot on the list approaches to confirm all the details and give an updated timeframe for completion. The original quote won't change, unless the design brief does.

For most knives, I only require full payment on completion. However, if you want a particularly rare, expensive material or a very personal design, I may require a deposit before starting work on your knife.

Once I start working on your knife, I'll send you progress updates and pics at various stages. I may also tag you in social media posts (if that's your thing)  so you can follow the journey.

Full payment is due before the knife is shipped. Postage within Australia will be included in the price. International postage will be an additional charge calculated based on the location and can be quoted in advance.
