MY STORY
Kevin Room - Knifemaker
I've always been drawn to things that cut and had a fascination with fire. I also love to make things with my hands. These interests were bound to collide eventually and in 2010, armed with some basic tools and no clue what I was doing, I forged my first knife.
It was incredible to feel that hot steel move under my hammer and amazing to see a knife gradually appear as I shaped it on an old bench grinder in my Father-in-law's backyard. From that moment on, I was hooked.

It took me several years to build a workshop and invest in some proper equipment but from there, my passion for the craft has only grown stronger as my skill and experience has developed.

Humble beginnings. My first 'forge' and rail track anvil

Today, Room Custom Knives are all handmade by me from start to finish from my workshop in south west Brisbane, Australia.
All my knives are one of a kind and I love working with customers who appreciate and enjoy the small details to design and build a knife that is unique and special to them.
I primarily focus on making high performance kitchen knives as I enjoy using them everyday. There are few things in life that give me more satisfaction than a blade effortlessly gliding through a large potato or a crispy carrot, without making a sound.
My interest as a maker is not limited to the kitchen, though. There's so many interesting styles and techniques to this craft that I want to learn. For this reason, I dedicate a portion of my time in the workshop to
expanding my skillset making other styles of knives, as well as woodwork and leather projects.

I am a currently a full member and the Queensland state representative for the Australian Knifemakers Guild.
I have won several awards for my work including Best Kitchen Knife at the 2019 Queensland Knife Show.
